Vision
To ensure access to justice for all, and to promote a legal system in which the economically or socially disadvantaged are not denied justice by reason of economic or other disabilities.
Mission
Based on the functions laid out in the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 and WBSLSA’s operations, the following form the mission of WBSLSA:
- To provide free and competent legal services to weaker sections of society.
- To organize Lok Adalats so that justice is delivered in a timely, accessible, and amicable manner.
- To encourage dispute settlement via mediation, negotiation, arbitration, conciliation, reducing reliance on formal court litigation.
- To secure legal rights of the poor, down-trodden and weaker sections.
- To ensure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on the basis of equal opportunity.
- To carry out legal literacy and awareness campaigns, so people know their rights and available legal services.
- To publicize legal aid schemes so that the target groups can approach the competent authorities for assistance. To cooperate with governmental and non-governmental institutions, universities etc., to promote access to justice and support legal service functions.
- To provide victim compensation under the state scheme.
