Early Life and Education

Honorable Sri Justice Sujoy Paul was born on 21.06.1964 to Late Sri Noni Gopal Paul and Smt. Manjushri Paul. He had his school education at Pandit L.S. Jha Model Higher Secondary School and completed his Graduation, Post Graduation, and LL.B from Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

Legal Career

He enrolled as an Advocate in the year 1990 in the Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh. He actively practiced in Civil, Constitutional, Industrial, Service, and other branches of law and appeared before various courts.

Judicial Career

• Madhya Pradesh High Court: Elevated as a Judge on May 27, 2011, and made a permanent Judge on April 14, 2014.
• Telangana High Court: Transferred to the Telangana High Court and took oath as a Judge on March 26, 2024. He also served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court from January 21, 2025, to July 17, 2025.
• Calcutta High Court: Appointed Acting Chief Justice effective from October 8, 2025. His appointment was notified by the Union government on September 26, 2025.

As of October 9, 2025, Justice Sujoy Paul is the Acting Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
